Terms of Service

The agreement between Neighbourly Tasks Ltd and its users. We have kept it as plain as we can.

Last updated: 3 May 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legally binding contract between you and Neighbourly Tasks Ltd ("we", "us", "our", "Brigby"), a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17164872, registered office 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA.

Brigby is a trading name of Neighbourly Tasks Ltd (company number 17164872).

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Brigby website, mobile application, or services (together, the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Refund Policy, Privacy Policy, and Cookies Policy, which together form your agreement with us. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

1. What Brigby is

1.1 Brigby is an online marketplace that introduces users who wish to post local tasks or jobs ("Customers", also referred to in some places as "Posters") to users who wish to complete those tasks for a fee ("Helpers", also referred to as "Taskers"). Together, Customers and Helpers are referred to as "Users".

1.2 We are not a party to any agreement between a Customer and a Helper. We do not provide, employ, supervise, direct, control, endorse, or guarantee any Helper, Customer, task, or work performed. We do not hold ourselves out as an employer or agency.

1.3 Any agreement to perform a task is formed directly between the Customer and the Helper. Brigby facilitates introductions, communication, and payment, but is not a party to that agreement.

1.4 We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding: the quality, safety, legality, or suitability of any Helper, Customer, task, or work performed; the accuracy of any listing; or that any specific outcome will be achieved.

2. Eligibility and account

2.1 You must be at least 18 years old and capable of forming a legally binding contract to use the Platform. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet these requirements.

2.2 You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account, and keep it updated. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity on your account.

2.3 We may refuse registration, suspend, or terminate accounts at our discretion, including where we reasonably suspect fraudulent activity, misuse, or breach of these Terms.

2.4 The Platform is intended for personal use by individuals. Customers should be posting their own tasks for their own household or personal needs. Helpers should be offering services as individuals. Businesses or agencies wishing to use the Platform at scale must contact us separately at info@neighbourlytasks.com.

3. Identity, verification, and safety

3.1 Important: Brigby does not currently carry out background checks, DBS checks, criminal record checks, qualification checks, or insurance checks on Helpers. Information that Helpers provide about themselves — including names, photos, descriptions, skills, and availability — is self-declared and is not independently verified by us.

3.2 Helpers complete identity verification through our payment provider, Stripe, but only for the purpose of receiving payouts. This is not a criminal background check and should not be relied on as one.

3.3 You are responsible for taking appropriate precautions when interacting with other Users. This may include: reading reviews and profiles carefully; meeting in public places where reasonable; verifying identity in person when a Helper visits your home; not sharing sensitive personal or financial information; asking for proof of qualifications, insurance, or right-to-work directly from the Helper if relevant; and trusting your instincts — if something feels wrong, do not proceed and report it to us.

3.4 If you believe another User has behaved inappropriately, illegally, or unsafely, report it immediately via info@neighbourlytasks.com.

4. Using the Platform as a Customer

4.1 When you post a task, you must describe it honestly, specify a reasonable budget, and ensure the task is legal.

4.2 You agree to pay the agreed amount for a task through the Platform's payment system (see Section 6). You must not attempt to circumvent the Platform's payment system to avoid platform fees.

4.3 You are responsible for: providing a safe environment for the Helper if the task takes place at your property; ensuring you have the right to request the task (e.g., ownership of the property or landlord consent for any work performed there); reviewing the work and confirming completion or raising a dispute promptly; and complying with all applicable laws.

4.4 You must not use the Platform to request tasks that are illegal, dangerous, discriminatory, sexual in nature, or that would put a Helper at unreasonable risk.

5. Using the Platform as a Helper

5.1 When you accept a task, you agree to perform it as described, to a reasonable standard for the type of task, and within a reasonable timeframe agreed with the Customer.

5.2 You are an independent individual, not our employee, worker, agent, or contractor. You are solely responsible for:

5.3 You confirm that you have the legal right to work in the United Kingdom.

5.4 You must not: attempt to receive payment outside the Platform; discriminate against any Customer; perform tasks that are illegal, dangerous, or beyond your competence; or damage any property (you may be personally liable for costs if you do).

5.5 Once you accept a task and the Customer has paid, you are committing to performing the work. If you can no longer do the task, withdraw before the Customer pays, or at the very least notify them as early as possible. Repeatedly withdrawing after payment may result in account suspension.

6. Payments, fees, and how money flows

6.1 Payments are processed by Stripe, our third-party payment provider. By using the Platform, you also agree to Stripe's terms (stripe.com/gb/legal).

6.2 When a Customer pays for a task, the funds are held in escrow by Stripe — they are not transferred to the Helper immediately. The funds are released to the Helper in one of the following ways:

6.3 Platform fee. Brigby charges a platform fee of 10% of the agreed task value, deducted from the amount the Helper receives. Stripe's processing fees are also deducted. We may change the platform fee on reasonable notice; changes will not affect tasks already booked.

6.4 All payments are in pounds sterling (GBP).

6.5 Refunds, cancellations, and disputes are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms. The Refund Policy sets out specific timeframes, scenarios, and outcomes — please read it. To the extent of any inconsistency between these Terms and the Refund Policy on refund-related matters, the Refund Policy prevails.

6.6 Helper tax responsibility. Helpers are self-employed individuals and must declare earnings to HMRC. We are not responsible for collecting or remitting Helper tax.

7. Cooling-off period and immediate performance

7.1 Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, consumers have a right to cancel certain distance contracts within 14 days. However, this right does not apply once a service has been fully performed with the consumer's express request and acknowledgement that the right will be lost.

7.2 By booking a task and paying, you acknowledge that:

7.3 Nothing in this section affects your other statutory rights as a consumer, including rights relating to services that are not performed with reasonable care and skill.

8. Conduct and content

8.1 You must not use the Platform to: post false, misleading, or illegal content; harass, threaten, or abuse other Users; discriminate against anyone on the basis of a protected characteristic; impersonate another person; distribute spam, viruses, or malware; attempt to reverse-engineer or disrupt the Platform; or breach any law.

8.2 Any content you post (task descriptions, messages, photos, profile information, reviews) must be truthful and lawful. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, store, and process such content for the purpose of operating the Platform.

8.3 We may, at our discretion and without notice, remove content, suspend accounts, or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.

9. Reviews and ratings

9.1 Users may leave reviews and ratings of other Users they have transacted with. Reviews must be honest, based on actual experience, and must not contain personal attacks, false claims, or illegal content.

9.2 We do not routinely moderate reviews but may remove reviews that clearly breach these Terms or are the subject of a successful complaint.

10. Disputes between Users

10.1 Any dispute about a task (e.g., quality of work, non-completion, damage) is fundamentally between the Customer and the Helper. You agree to first try to resolve disputes directly, in good faith.

10.2 If direct resolution is not possible, you may raise a dispute through the Platform. Our handling of disputes — including timing, possible outcomes, and what we do with held funds — is set out in our Refund Policy.

10.3 Our decisions on Platform-related actions (such as releasing or refunding held funds, or warning or suspending accounts) are final from a Platform perspective, but do not prevent either User from pursuing legal remedies against the other.

11. Damage and liability between Users

11.1 If a Helper damages a Customer's property, or if a Customer or their property causes injury or loss to a Helper, that is a matter between the Users involved. Brigby is not a party to any such claim.

11.2 Our Refund Policy covers the cost of the task itself in clear cases of non-completion. It does not cover the cost of property damage, personal injury, or consequential losses. You may need to recover these directly from the other User, through their insurance, or through your own home or contents insurance.

11.3 We strongly recommend that Helpers performing trade work, transport, or anything else involving risk to property or persons hold appropriate public liability insurance.

12. Our role and our liability to you

12.1 We provide the Platform on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or secure access at all times.

12.2 Subject to clause 12.3, to the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability to you arising from or relating to the Platform or these Terms is limited to the greater of: (a) the total platform fees we have received from you in the 12 months preceding the claim; or (b) £100.

12.3 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; any breach of your statutory rights as a consumer that cannot be limited by law; or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

12.4 Subject to clause 12.3, we are not liable for: any loss, damage, injury, or cost caused by the acts or omissions of another User; the quality, legality, or safety of any task or work; or any indirect, consequential, special, or punitive damages, including loss of profit, revenue, data, or business opportunity.

12.5 You agree to indemnify us against losses, damages, costs, or claims arising from your breach of these Terms, your use of the Platform, or any third-party claim related to your conduct on the Platform. This clause does not apply to claims that arise from our own negligence or breach.

13. Termination and account closure

13.1 You may close your account at any time via your account settings or by contacting us. If you have outstanding tasks (paid but not completed), please complete or resolve them before closing.

13.2 We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or applicable law, or if we decide to cease operation of the Platform.

13.3 Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ends immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive (including those relating to payment, liability, indemnity, and dispute resolution) will survive.

14. Changes to these Terms

14.1 We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified to you by email or via the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, you must stop using the Platform and close your account. Changes will not apply retroactively to tasks already booked.

15. Governing law and disputes with us

15.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

15.2 Any dispute between you and us will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales, except that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your jurisdiction. Nothing in this clause affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

16. Miscellaneous

16.1 If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.

16.2 These Terms, together with the Refund Policy, Privacy Policy, and Cookies Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us in respect of the Platform and supersede any prior agreements.

16.3 We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms; you may not, without our written consent.

16.4 No waiver by us of any breach is a waiver of any subsequent breach.
